19th Annual Pulp and Paper Reliability and Maintenance Conference
October 10-14, 2005, Atlanta, GA.

Program:
Exhibit:
Improved Production Reliability has become one of the most important factors in competition. Improving Reliability is a joint challenge for operations and maintenance professionals. Over the years we have seen a steady increased participation of teams representing operations and maintenance. More and more mills include operators in basic maintenance work and have seen improved Production Reliability and lower costs as a result.

If successfully implemented, better reliability and maintenance practices can increase quality production throughput 2 – 10 % and reduce maintenance and operations costs by 10 – 30%.
To successfully implement sustainable improvements, skilled people must work in an efficient work system. In the next five years many pulp and paper mills will loose over 50% of its skilled employees and only 14% of mills have professional training programs in place. Only 4% of mills reported that they can easily find skilled people. That is a challenge this year’s conference will address.

Many mill professionals will present case studies on how they improved performance through implementation of better work practices, what obstacles they had to overcome and what results they achieved.

How to sell reliability and maintenance improvements to top management will be the focus of my seminar this year.
